Asos enjoys overseas sales boost
Nov 17, 2009
A big push into new international markets has boosted sales at online fashion retailer Asos. International sales grew by 112% in the six months to 30 September. Sales across the group as a whole were up 47%, with UK sales 33% higher.
Asos added 56 countries to its reach and now trades in 114 places, with Denmark, Germany, Ireland, France and the US the main overseas markets.
Pre-tax profits for the period rose by 9% to £4. 4m.
Asos said the profit increase was helped by the increased global spread of the business and tighter cost controls.
Rapid growth
Asos offers its customers outfits similar to those worn by people in the media spotlight. In the past six months it has also launched a children's range, called Little Asos.
It has been in business since 2000, selling mainly to 16-34 years olds and now has 1. 2 million active customers - classified as those who have bought in the last six months.
Its founder and chief executive, Nick Robertson, said he expected the company's performance in the second half of the year to be "significantly ahead" of last year.
